From September 2026

Benedict's Law

New ingredient labelling expectations mean every school meal should carry a full ingredient list — not just a note about the 14 declarable allergens.

What is changing

Before September 2026

Limited information. Families often had to ask, and catering teams pieced answers together from supplier paperwork.

From September 2026

A full ingredient list provided for every meal, kept current as recipes and suppliers change.

The 14 allergens

These must be declared by law. Many children react to ingredients outside this list, which is why Saphe Tech records full ingredient information rather than only the 14.

  • Celery
  • Cereals containing gluten
  • Crustaceans
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Lupin
  • Milk
  • Molluscs
  • Mustard
  • Nuts
  • Peanuts
  • Sesame seeds
  • Soya
  • Sulphur dioxide and sulphites

How Saphe Tech helps you get ready

  • Record supplier menus and recipe ingredient lists exactly as provided.
  • Keep each child's dietary record next to the menu information.
  • Track staff allergy-awareness training and refresh dates.
  • Export evidence of your process for governors and inspectors.

Saphe Tech records the information you and your suppliers provide. It does not verify labelling or decide what is safe for an individual.
